-- The original members of Duran Duran‹ Simon LeBon (vocals), Andy Taylor (guitar), John Taylor (bass), Roger Taylor (drums) and Nick Rhodes (keyboards) have announced the impending release of their first new album together since 1983's multi-platinum 'Seven & the Ragged Tiger.' Epic Records will release the as-yet-untitled record worldwide in October 2004.

Writing in the south of France and recording at Sphere Studios in London, the band members are currently working with producers Rich Harrison (Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Usher) and Don Gilmore (Good Charlotte, Linkin Park, Pearl Jam, Sugar Ray), thereby drawing on a unique combination of R&B and alternative rock experience.

The poignant "What Happens Tomorrow" and the electric/rock "Sunrise" (a version of which was featured on the "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" soundtrack), both of which the band members have played live since reuniting in 2003, are slated for inclusion on the new album. Other song highlights include the moody, noirish "Still Breathing" and the mischievous "Bedroom Toys." Stylistically adventurous, the album showcases the diverse influences and abilities of each band member, blending brash rock guitar with slick synths and LeBon's inimitable lyrics and melodies.

The album will also feature a one hour bonus DVD including live footage shot over two nights at London's Wembley Arena this past spring and exclusive behind-the-scenes video.

The announcement comes on the heels of a remarkable run of seventeen sold out arena dates in the UK and Ireland and a victory at the BRIT Awards where the band members were honored for their "Outstanding Contribution to Music." An unemployed US man is suing Duran Duran, after a mistake on a band website resulted in him being bombarded with phone calls. Cornell Zachary, 56, was in danger of suffering a stroke as the onslaught of calls – believed to be in the millions - continued day and night.

Zachary's phone number was mistakenly shown on a website as the contact for fans to purchase T-Shirts, souvenirs and tickets. In his case, which names Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes and Warren Cuccurullo, Zachary explains: 'The phone calls were coming in on a 24-hour basis from all over the world. 'They had me to the point where my doctor told me I could have a stroke.' He claims suffering 'life-threatening high blood pressure episodes', nerve damage, sleep disturbance and permanent health problems as a consequence of the mistake. At the time of the incident, in the summer of 1999, Zachary was also recovering form a broken ankle. 'They have never even given me a sorry card, ya know', Zachary concludes. 'Duran Duran is not an unpopular group with me. This is nothing personal.'

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THEY DIDN'T FILM ANY OF THOSE SHOWS! IT SEEMS SOMEWHAT STRANGE THAT THEY WENT TO SO MUCH TROUBLE TO CREATE THE COMPLEX STAGING AND SCENARY, ENDURED THE CRAZINESS OF TRAVELING THRU AMERICA WITH AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF TRUCKS AND CREW, WHO HAD TO RE BUILD THE SETS EVERY DAY, YET

I was wondering if the song "We Need You" was written during the sessions for the Notorious album. It is such a different sounding song than anything on Notorious. Perhaps one of the group members could explain exactly how that song came about, and perhaps why it didn't make it onto the album. Thanks.

'We Need You' was a late night 'moment' while taking a break from the 'Notorious' album at Air studios in London. the guitar riff (for want of a better word) was mine, i forget where the title phrase came from, it was an easy match to the music, and LeBon filled in the dots pretty darn quick. We were all aware of the similarities to the Rolling Stones' 'We Love You'. The Notorious album was a tough one to make, with Nick, Simon and myself sort of making it up as we went along, trying to reinvent the band without Roger, and not knowing at if Andy was going to stay with us. Steve Ferrone helped out at first, then Nile later. (Warren's audition was 'American Science'.) But 'We Need You' is just the three of us, which makes it perhaps the purest song of that season. JT"

Hello there, I haven't looked at the insert for the Greatest CD in a while (I just grab the cd and play it, hehe.) I couldn't help but noticing the pages of the last half are rotated 180 degrees. I had forgotten they were like that. Well, I was just wondering if anyone knew if it was designed like that or was a mistake made somewhere in the printing process and wasn't caught then and during production people just assumed that was the way it was supposed to look? Hi Guys, my question is about album art, or more specifically, what in the past has been the technique for coming up with the visual design of your album covers? Do you usually have a concept in your mind which is given to the designer, or have you ever just given the designer "free-reign" to create whatever he or she saw fit? And has there ever been an instance where the group and the designer did not see eye to eye on what would be best for the group's image? Can't wait for the new album! Joe, USA.

ACCORDING TO THE BAND, IT REALLY VARIES FROM ALBUM TO ALBUM. GENERALLY, THEY WOULD FIND A GRAPHIC DESIGNER WHOSE WORK THEY LIKE AND THEN MEET TO DISCUSS IDEAS AND CONCEPTS. IF THIS INITIAL RENDEZVOUS GOES WELL THEN THE PROJECT MOVES FORWARD TO THE NEXT STAGE WHERE THE DESIGNER WOULD MOCK UP SEVERAL DIFFERENT OPTIONS FOR POSSIBLE DIRECTIONS OF COVER ART WORK. IF THEY ALL AGREE, THEN LIFE BECOMES VERY EASY. IF THEY DO NOT, DEBATE COMMENCES. SOMETIMES THEY DECIDE TO STICK WITH A DESIGNER, OTHER TIMES THEY MOVE ON AND ACTUALLY TRY SEVERAL PEOPLE OUT BEFORE MAKING A FINAL DECISION. WHEN YOU FIND SOMEONE REALLY GREAT THOUGH, IT IS OFTEN THE CASE THAT THE BAND WORK WITH THEM FOR SEVERAL CONSECUTIVE PROJECTS BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP SOME CONTINUITY WHEN YOU CAN. I am wondering two things: 1) Who was behind the concept of the video and 2) Did you guys take inspiration from the old silent film "Cassenova"? I believe that movie also had woman in 18th century garb and wigs with the black make-up around the eyes? You guys are the best band ever!!! John F. "

tthe video scripting was done by the director, who took his inspiration from the lyric & sound of the song. It is just a simple costume/ghost story set in eastern europe long ago really. i am afraid to say i haven't the silent version of CASSANOVA but could certainly recommend Frederico Fellini's film of the same name. Hi Katy, At the beginning of the song Buried in the Sand Simon is whispering words that I can partially make out but not entirely. I think he is saying: "It's too bad.... it's really sad... it's disrespectful???... nevermind???" I was wondering if Simon could be willing to enlighten me regarding what the final words he says before the official lyrics begin with "Can't say that I was surprised..." Also, just wanted to comment that Medazzaland is a super album, very catchy in an unexplainable kind of way. It certainly deserves more respect than it has received. Lastly, truly looking forward to hearing all the original members making great music togther again, the sound bites are outstanding, energetic but with polished confidence... all the best, Richard
